Sweet 75 S/T 1997

I got this album just to see what Krist Novoselic (previously Nirvana's bass player) was doing after Nirvana disbanded. Released under Geffen Records in 1997, it's a great self titled full lenght studio album consist of 14 tracks. Unlike his former bandmate Dave Grohl, Novoselic is taking real chances, directing the spotlight on to singer Yva Las Vegas (a South American Joan Jett); varying the style from straightforward rock to spoofy country to lounge (check out "La Vida," which features guest trumpet by Herb Alpert), and generally making music that defies easy categorization. This album is pretty easy on the ears. The catchy rock fueling Yvas vocals is not as crunchy as the Foos, but it is a refreshing change when a former band member has more talent and a different sound than the band that spawned him. krist has expressed a different side of light here but holding on to his own gifts still. i really admire him for doing what he wanted and not what the typical person might have expected out of him. not to say this would be a let down by any means to a dedicated nirvana fan at all, just example, hearing trumpets, saxophones, percussions, accordions (which if you remember krist playing kurts accordion on mtv unplugged) nothing new and actually the first insturment krist learned how to play, so i think he is showing some of his original melodies here, like sleeping under the stars if you know what i mean.
