Jimmy Cliff, was born in Somertorn District, Jamaica in 1 April 1948, and moved to Kingston in 1962. And this "The Power And The Glory" is one of his best classical album ever released, consist of 9 solid reggae tracks of positivity and energy. The smash hit Reggae Night, as well as another joyful tribute to Jamaica, `Sunshine In The Music'. In the original 1983's The Power and the Glory inaugurated his partnership with Kool the Gang, and the album was nominated for a Grammy.Latoya Jackson also once did a cover song of "Reggae Night" and got her grammy award nomination for her album "No Relations".

This classic crucial Reggae album was released in 1968 under Jet Set records. Probably no other Jamaican artist has brought more international acclaim to his island home than Desmond Dekker, barring, of course, Bob Marley, but Dekker came first. "Action" is some really great stuff. Obviously influenced, as were most Jamaican groups of the era (1960s), by Curtis Mayfield and the Impressions. Many of these tunes such as It Pays, Keep a Cool head, Unity (the inspiration for Queen Latifah's early 1990s hit), and Young Generation, sound like upbeat hymns to positive thinking, with the Aces providing lovely background harmony to Desmond's lead and the backing of Beverly's All Stars. First released as an LP and reissued on CD in 1996 (with four bonus tracks), Action is essential listening for even casual reggae fans. The best-known song on the CD, however, is "007," also known as "Shanty Town." With its reference to Jamaica's rude boys, the song took a look at violent crime in Jamaica's poor ghettos and became one of the biggest reggae hits of the 1960s.
